Glen Iris Cricket Club – Safety Guidelines

Cricket is an enjoyable and skillful sport, but like all physical activities, it carries some risk of injury. Safety is everyone’s responsibility: players, coaches, and officials alike. By using the correct protective equipment, following good training practices, respecting others, and staying alert, players can greatly reduce the chance of accidents. Safe play not only protects individuals but also helps create a positive, enjoyable environment for everyone involved in the game.

At Glen Iris Cricket Club we take safety very seriously – it is our most important priority. We offer these guidelines to safety to help enrich your enjoyment of the game. Accordingly, we don’t allow unsafe practices, and we ask our members and anyone in our community to be vigilant. Please let a club official know if you witness any unsafe practices or behaviours.

Our Safety Guidelines are structured into the following sections:
Protective equipment
Safety in the Nets (indoor and outdoor)
Use of Cricket Ball Throwers
Safe use of bowling machines
Emergency resources
Reporting of issues

The key points to be aware of when participating in cricket training sessions are as follows:
1. Proper, undamaged protective gear must be worn where appropriate.
2. All participants and spectators should be aware of circumstances where they are exposed to danger.
3. Participants are expected to be vigilant in watching for potential danger to both themselves and others.
4. Equipment that can propel cricket balls at high speeds must only be utilised by those properly skilled.

We always want to improve our safety. The game is evolving and many practices that were once considered safe (e.g. batting without a helmet), are no longer acceptable as safe play. We are very interested in any feedback or additional tips that you may have. Use the Contacts page to get in contact with the club committee if you have any suggestions.
