Glen Iris Cricket Club has a long and proud history of building an inclusive and welcoming culture around its junior program and we currently have a large number of junior teams for boys and girls fielded in the ECA.
Our program is built around the following simple philosophy:
- Creating a positive and encouraging environment.
- Players to learn and develop their cricket and life skills.
- Enjoying the game of cricket and making new friends.
- Place sportsmanship above winning at all costs.
Registration
GICC invites boys and girls to register for the upcoming 2025/26 season. Registrations open on 30th July 2025 and are conducted through PlayHQ.
Junior registration fees for season 2025/26 are flat on last season at $295 per child, or register by 31st August 2025 to receive the early bird price of $275. To apply the early-bird discount, please use voucher code 5F29FE20 at the Review & Confirm page on the PlayHQ form. On top of this club registration fee there is a mandatory $17.45 Cricket Australia registration fee which covers insurance and digital fees.
The link to register for GICC Juniors is:
First time users of PlayHQ can link their child’s Cricket ID to their PlayHQ account. If your child does not have a Cricket ID, they can be registered (for free) at:
www.cricket.com.au/cricket-id/
On the PlayHQ registration form, players can indicate which age group competitions they would like to play in, whether they would like to be considered for A grade selection (U12 and over) and whether they would like to play more than one game per week. For any other playing preferences, please contact the Junior Coordinator.
The PlayHQ registration form asks if the player has any Disability Details. If your child has any medical issues not covered by this question that you feel we should know about, please notify the Junior Coordinator on registration, or the team manager and coach before the first training session.
We strongly encourage parents/guardians to register (for free) as a Volunteer through PlayHQ. There are many roles that need filling at training and on match days so adult assistance is required and greatly appreciated!

Training
IN-SEASON TRAINING
The intention is for age groups to train at the same times in season 2025/26 to optimise our coaching resources and foster connections across the Club. At this stage we are looking to hold training at:
- U9/10/11 – Tuesday from 4.30-5.30pm
- U12/13 – Thursday from 5-6pm
- U14A – Wednesday from 5-6.30pm

Training times will be confirmed closer to the start of the season and may alter from the above subject to availability of coaches.
Training will be held at the Eric Raven nets. On occasion for centre wicket training, other GICC grounds may be used but will be communicated well in advance by Team Managers.
More details on in-season training will be provided closer to the start date.
PRE-SEASON TRAINING
Pre-season training for U12s and above will be held each Wednesday afternoon in September at the Hawthorn Cricket Centre (13 Mayston St, Hawthorn East), commencing on the 3rd of September, and on some Sunday afternoons during September. Pre-season training is not compulsory, but attendance and performance is one of the criteria taken into consideration in the selection of A teams (please see the Policies & Procedures document for the other criteria).
More details on pre-season training will be provided closer to the start date.
Uniforms & Equipment
All players will be required to proudly wear a GICC playing shirt and cap when representing the Club. Shirts and caps from previous seasons can be worn again this season or new clothing can be purchased from the Club’s online shop.
New players to GICC Juniors this season will need to purchase a playing shirt and will be presented a free cap from the Club before their first match.
When purchasing playing shirts, please note that our U9-16 teams wear a green junior shirt. To keep costs down for families, these shirts are provided for sale at cost.
If you would like your child’s surname printed on the back of their playing shirt, then please ensure you order the shirt through the online shop no later than Sunday 17th August to ensure shirts can be ready for Round 1 as we have been notified by the manufacturer that they need 8 weeks lead time for printing this year. Numbers on the back of shirts are allocated randomly. A sizing chart for junior shirts can be found in the attached Junior Policies & Procedures document.
Players will be required to wear long white pants. These can be purchased from any cricket or sports store.
The Club supplies all U9-12 teams with an equipment that includes helmets, bats, pads and batting gloves. For hygiene reasons, players must provide their own abdominal guard/protector (box). These can be purchased from any cricket or sports store. Batters in all junior grades must wear a helmet and box at training and in matches.
