President’s Message – 2024/25 Season

Welcome to the 2024/25 season!

As we step into another exciting summer of cricket at Glen Iris, I hope you’ve had a fantastic (though chilly!) winter and that your footy team made you proud. Now, we look forward to enjoying what we hope will be a brilliant Melbourne summer.

I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all our members, both returning and new, as we embark on our 101st season at Glen Iris. The excitement is building, and we’re just about ready to get things underway.

The committee have been working hard over the winter period to set this season up for a great start. We should all send our thanks for the work they have done and will do for this coming season. This year your committee is; Bill Heath (Secretary), Marko Dordevic (VP Seniors), Shivani Bhatnagar (VP Women), Ryan Green (VP Juniors), Joel Silver (Treasurer), plus the general committee: Scott Rankin, Derek Jarman, Andrew Stolzenburg, Matt Saunders.

A special thanks goes out to our incredible sponsors who are backing us once again this season. A big thank you to Bendigo Bank, Shelter Real Estate, Axiom, George Fethers, Ashburton Meats, Malvern Autos, BM Tech, and Proctor Major for their continued support. We’re also thrilled to welcome our latest new sponsors: Dr Optical, Thymes Five Café, Woolcock Lawyers, and Duo Projects. Your generosity helps our club thrive.

We’re also seeing a fantastic increase in individual player sponsorships this year – which is great to see. Thank you to those businesses that have supported our players so far. Remember, if you’re a senior or Vets player, or a junior parent, have you found your sponsor yet? Every bit of support helps.

We’re excited to introduce Ben Jacobs, our overseas player from the UK. Ben joins us from Tring Park Cricket Club in the Thames Valley Cricket League Division 1. We’re thrilled to have him on board and wish him a fantastic season ahead. Please make Ben feel very welcome.

A big congratulations and thank you to our captains, coaches, and team managers across all grades, from seniors and vets to juniors. Your hard work and leadership are invaluable in creating opportunities to play and competing well at every level. We wish you all the best for the season ahead.

This season marks a special milestone as we launch our very first Senior Women’s Programme – Social Sixers. This fun, informal social cricket session will be run weekly by Cricket Victoria, and we’re also planning to be part of a fortnightly women’s social competition on Sunday afternoons. If you or someone you know is interested, no experience or equipment is required – just register here your enthusiasm and give it a go!

The committee has some exciting social events planned, starting with our Season Launch at Eric Raven on Sunday, 6th October. This is an all-club event, and we’d love to see everyone there. BBQ, Paul Lourey Bar, raffles, fun and games for the juniors.

Finally, I’d like to remind everyone that Glen Iris Cricket Club is fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of conduct. We’ve endorsed Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia’s codes concerning Member Protection, Complaints and Resolution, Safeguarding Children, and Codes of Behaviour. Let’s all continue to uphold these values with respect and integrity.

I look forward to seeing you at the grounds. Let’s make this season one to remember!

Go Iris!

Jim Parry

President, Glen Iris Cricket Club

P.S. If you haven’t registered yet, don’t wait. The Senior Early Bird registration is closing soon!
