GICC Team of the Decades Sides & Photos

A wonderful night celebrating the rich history of the Glen Iris Club was held on Saturday night at the GICC Team of the Decades event. Held at Revolver Lane Atrium the GICC community filled the venue and acknowledged two turf and two synthetic team of the Decades.

TURF TEAM OF THE DECADE
2002/03 – 2011/12

 

Scott Rojko (captain) 1st XI Player Cap No. 42
Scott played one season for Glen Iris in the 1996/97 season before re-joining the club in the 2006/07 season. Elevated to Captain-Coach in the 2007/08, Scott set the record for runs in the 1st XI that year, with 450, which stood until the 2012/13 season. That season, Scott was the Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Champion and John Foley Award winner. During the decade, Scott played 56 games  and made 1,185 runs, with 10 x 50s and a highest score of 88. He also took 60 wickets with best bowling of 5/45. His performances led Scott to back to back 1st XI MVP awards in 2007/08 and 2008/09, winning the 1st XI Batting Award in 2007/08 and 1st XI Bowling Award in 2008/09. Leading the Club as 1st XI Captain in the 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, Scott captained the 2009/10 1st XI Premiership win and in his final season as captain, was the Jim Toohey / Ivan Greaves Jnr. Most Determined Player

Toby Tribe – 1st XI Player Cap No. 23
Toby joined the Glen Iris Cricket Club in the 2003/04 season and made his 1st XI Debut that season. Taking over the 2nd XI Captaincy in the 2005/06 season, he eventually led the 2nd XI from the relegation zone in C-Turf, to A-Turf in 6 seasons, serving as captain from 2005 until 2011. During the decade, Toby played in 95 turf games which was the 4th most games and made 2,262 runs with 8 x 50s and 2 x 100s with a highest score of 111*, which was the most runs by any turf player during the period. His 2008/09 season run tally of 496 in the 2nd XI saw Toby win the Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Championship, along with the John Foley Award and stands as the record for runs in a 2nd XI season to this day. He also won 2nd XI Most Valuable Player Awards in 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2008/09, along with the 2nd XI Batting in the 2006/07 season. Toby also captained the 2nd XI to the 2010/11 B-turf premiership and followed that up the following year, playing in the 2011/12D-turf premiership.

Cameron Armstrong – 1st XI Player Cap No. 49
An ex-junior, Cam returned to the Glen Iris Cricket Club in the 2007/08 season from the Melbourne Cricket Club and immediately started gathering the awards at the club, winning the 1st XI Fielding Award in his first season back. In 56 games during the Decade, Cam made 1,776 runs, which is the 4th most for the club during the period. Amongst those runs, Cam made 10 x 50s and 1 x 100 with a highest score of 104. Cam went on a golden run in the final 3 seasons of the decade, where he won the Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Champion award in the 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons and in each of those three seasons, also won the John Foley Award. Cam was also the 1st X Most Valuable Player in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons and won the 1st XI Batting in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons. The 2009/10 season also saw Cam play in the 1st XI Premiership side. Cam was also recognised by the ECA, making the Dunstan Shield Team of the Year in 2010/11 and 2011/12 and Cam was also awarded the Dunstan Medal in 2011/12.

Tom McDermott – 1st XI Player Cap No. 38
Another ex-junior, Tom played his 1st turf game for the club in the 2002/03 season, in the 2nd XI and eventually made his 1st XI debut in the 2005/06 season, playing 65 turf games through the decade. He made 1,514 runs (which was the 7th most for the decade) with 5 x 50s and 2 x 100s and a highest score of 149. Tom also took 12 wickets, with best bowling of 3/4. He was the Mike Bullock / Ivan Greeves Jnr. Rising Star in 2004/05 and 2005/06. Tom made 339 runs in the 2008/09 season, which led him to winning the 1st XI Batting Award that year. An exceptional fielder, Tom also won the 1st XI Fielding Award in the 2008/09 and 2010/11 seasons and played in the 2009/10 1st XI premiership.

Michael Harvey – 1st XI Player Cap No. 2
An ex-GICC junior, Michael played his first game for Glen Iris in the 1987/88 season and played his first game in the 1st XI in the 1989/90 season. Michael served as Vice-Captain of the 1st XI in the first game after the merger and hence, is player Cap no. 2. Mick played 110 games during the decade, which was the 2nd most during the period and in that time, made 1,697 runs (which is 6th most) with 4 x 50s and 2 x 100s and a high score of 126. A genuine all-rounder, Mick also took the second most amount of wickets with 141 wickets with 3 x 5wi and best bowling of 6/82. Mick was the 2005/06 Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Champion, winning the 1st XI Bowling Award and 1st XI Most Valuable Player in the same year, which was also a Premiership winning year for the 1st XI, which Mick played in. He also won the 2nd XI Batting Award in 2007/08 (and the 2nd XI Most Valuable Player that year) and 2nd XI Bowling Award in 2009/10, to go with 1st XI Fielding Awards in 2002/03 and 2003/04. Michael also served the club as 1st XI Captain in the 2004/05 season and then led the 3rd XI to the 2011/12 D-turf premiership.

Mark Kump – 1st XI Player Cap No.3
Mark joined the club in the 1998/99 season and played in the 1st XI in the first game of the merged club as player cap no. 3. During the decade, Mark played the 5th most turf games for the club, with 91 and made the second most runs with 1,929 with 11 x 50s and 1 x 100 and highest score of 133 not out. Mark won the 2003/04 1st XI Batting Award and was a 2011/12 3rd XI Premiership Player.

Denis Bilston – 1st XI Player Cap No. 5
Denis joined the Glen Iris Cricket Club in the 1996/97 season and in the first game after the merger, played in the 1st XI as Player Cap No. 5. During the first decade of the merger club, Denis played 53 games and made 1,286 runs with 6 x 50s and 1 x 100 and a highest score of 110 not out. Denis won the 2002/03 Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Championship, along with the 2002/03 1st XI Batting Award and 1st XI Most Valuable Player. Selected as the wicketkeeper for the Turf Team of the Decade, Denis won the 2003/04 1st XI and 2006/07 2nd XI Fielding Awards.

Mark Purcell – Player Cap No. 15
Mark joined the club in the 1st year of the merger and made his 1st XI debt that season as player cap no. 15. During the decade, Mark played the most turf games for the club during the 1st decade, made the 3rd most runs and took the most wickets. He played 111 games  and made 1,893 runs with 10 x 50s and 2 x 100s and a highest score of 125. With the ball, Mark took 164 wickets with 3 x 5wi and 1 x 7wi and best bowling of 7/24. Mark was a two-time 1st XI Premiership Player in 2005/06 and 2009/10 and was the 1st XI Most Valuable Player four times, in 2004/05, 2006/07, 2009/10 and 2010/11. Mark also won the 2004/05 1st Batting Award and 2005/06 and 2006/07 1st  XI Fielding Awards.

Peter Damyon – Player Cap No.25
PD joined the club in the 2003/04 season and debuted in the 1st XI during that season. Pete played 62 turf games during the decade and made 434 runs with a highest score of 47. With the ball though, PD excelled taking 89 wickets (the 5th most during the decade) with 3 x 5wis and best bowling of 5/11. Pete won the Bowling Award in the 2007/08 2nd XI and 2009/10 1st XI seasons and won the 2005/06 2nd XI Fielding Award. Peter played in the 2009/10 1st XI Premiership and was duly awarded the Grand Final Most Valuable Player for his bowling performance in the game.

Lachlan Armstrong – Player Cap No. 24
Another ex-junior, Lachie made his senior debut in the 2000/01 season and his 1st XI debut came during the 2003/04 season. During the decade, Lachie played 100 turf games, which was the 3rd most and took the 3rd most amount of wickets. He made 1,099 runs with 3 x 50s and a highest score of 60 and took 111 wickets with 2 x 5wi, 1 x 7wi and best bowling of 7/27. Given his 1st XI debut that season, Lachie won the Chris Joseph Most Improved Player Award to go with the Jim Toohey / Glenan Thomas Most Determined Player. Lachie was decorated with the Most Determined Player Award two more times in 2009/10 and 2011/12 and won the 1st XI Bowling Award in 2004/05. He also won the Fielding Award for the 2nd XI in 2002/03 season and the 2004/05 1st XI season. Lachie was also a two time 1st XI Premiership player, playing in the 2005/06 and 2009/10 1st XI Premierships.

Daniel Harvey – Player Cap no. 10
An ex-GICC junior, Dan made his senior debut in the 1990/91 season, eventually debuting in the 1st XI in the 1994/95 season. He was a member of the merged club’s initial 1st XI as Player Cap no. 10. In 68 turf games across the decade, Dan made 385 runs with a highest score of 34 not out and took 106 wickets, which was the 4th most for the decade, with best bowling of 4/18. Dan was the 2003/04 Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Champion and 1st XI Most Valuable Player. He won the 2003/04 1st XI and 2008/09 2nd XI Bowling Awards and played in the 2005/06 1st XI Premiership side.

SYNTHETIC TEAM OF THE DECADE
2002/03 – 2011/12

 

1. Andrew Kellaway (w/k)
Andrew joined the Glen Iris Cricket Club in the 2008/09 with an influx of ex-Richmond Football Club players. An ex-Victorian Under 17 representative, Andrew ended up playing 38games in the LOC competition, with a total of 39 game in all. He made 1,482 runs in total, with 9 x 50s and a highest score of 97. He won the LOC1 Batting Award for the Club in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons and was a LOC2 Premiership Player in 2008/09 and a LOC1 Premiership Player in 2010/11 and has been selected as the wicketkeeper for the Team of The Decade.

2. Simon Dumaresq – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 6
An ex-GIUCC junior, Simon made his senior debut for Glen Iris in the 1997/98 season and made his 1 st XI debut during the 1999/2000 season. Upon the merger of the club, Simon was selected as Player Cap No. 6 in the first 1 st XI of the newly formed club. Missing a few seasons after that initial 20 wicket / 126 run season, Simon returned to play 37 games in the LOC competition, making 1,189 runs with 4 x 50s, 3 x 100s and a highest score of 124 not out. He also chimed in with 6 wickets with best bowling of 2/20. Simon was the 2011/12 LOC1 Most Valuable Player and also won the LOC1 batting award in that season and was a member of the 2010/11 LOC1 Premiership side.

3. George Koumantatakis – 1 st XI Player No. 34
George, or “Doc” as he is otherwise known started his Glen Iris Cricket Club career in the 1992/93 season, starting in the 1 st XI and serving as 1 st XI Captain for 5 seasons before the merger of the two clubs. Returning to the club in the 2003/04 season, George earnt his 1 st XI Cap no. 34 in the 2004/05 season and served the Club once more as captain of our 3 rd XI, incidentally playing in the 2 nd highest grade of the synthetic competition, against 1 st XI Burt Shield sides. During the decade, George played 50 games on Syntho and made 1,544 runs with 4 x 50s and 4 x 100s and a highest score of 167 not out made during his 11 games, 609 run season in 2006/07 season. During that time, George won the 3 rd XI Batting Award in that stellar 2006/07 season and although no one is ever retired at Glen Iris, Doc has ended up being the 15 the highest scoring player for the club with 4,590 runs in 215 games, and is a Life Member of the GICC.

4. Nick Adams
Nick started at Glen Iris in the 2000/2001 season and settled in his 2 nd season making his 1 st 100 for the club in the year before the merger. A hugely prolific upper and middle order batsman, Nick made the 2nd most amount of runs for the GICC during the first decade, scoring 2,568 runs with 18 x 50s and 2 x 100s and a highest score of 140. He played in the 6th most amount of games with 116 games during the decade and finished at Glen Iris with 162 games and 3,619 runs with 21 x 50s and 3 x 100s. Nick was the 2002/03 6th XI Most Valuable Player and won the Batting Award that season as well, also winning the Most Valuable Player Award in the 2008/09 4th XI. Along the way, Nick played in the 2003/04 and 2010/11 5th XI Premierships and was 12th Man in the 2005/06 4th XI Premiership.

5. Greg Stafford – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 55
Staff, as he is affectionately known, joined the Glen Iris Cricket Club at the start of the 2008/09 season and in his early career at Glen Iris, limited himself to one dayers, where he would play where selected and where he earnt 1 st XI Player Cap no. 55. In the LOC competition though, Greg was dominant. In 48 games, Staff made 1,953 runs, which was the 6th most for the club on synthetic during this period with 16 x 50s and 4 x 100s and a highest score of 137. A genuine all rounder, he also took 80 wickets with 2 x 5wi and best bowling of 6/19. Greg’s performances earnt him the 2008/09 LOC2 and 2009/10 LOC1 Most Valuable Player Awards, winning the Batting and Bowling Awards in LOC2 in 2008/09 and the Bowling Award in the 2010/11 LOC1 season. During that time, he also played in the 2008/09 LOC2 and 2010/11 LOC1 Premierships.

6. Mark Chaffey – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 56
Coming to the club during the 2008/09 season with Kellaway, Stafford and Tivendale, Mark Chaffey played predominantly LOC cricket, but often helped out up the grades, earning his selection in one day games for the 1 st XI as Player Cap no. 56. In 48 games in the LOC though, he made 1,565 runs with 11 x 50s, 2 x 100s and a highest score of 103 not out. He also bowled throughout the 1 st decade, taking 54 wickets with best bowling of 5/13. Winning the LOC1 Most Valuable Player Award in the 2010/11 LOC1 season, Chaff was also known as a sublime fielder, with a rocket arm courtesy of years of under age representative baseball. He duly won the 2008/09 LOC2, 2009/10 LOC1 and 2010/11 LOC1 Fielding Awards and was a two time Premiership Player in he 2008/09 LOC2 team and 2010/11 LOC1 team, a game in which he was awarded the medal for the Most Valuable Player in the Grand Final.

7. Robin Ferguson
Quite possibly, one of the most dominant players to ever play for the Club, Robin Ferguson’s career stretches back to the 70s, where he served as 1 st XI Captain for at least 15 years and continues to this day, as captain of the Over 50s Vets side. During the first decade of the merger though, Ferg continued his prolific performances with bat and ball, playing 109 times in the Synthetic teams over these years, scoring the most amount of runs with 2,726 and taking the 4 th most wickets with 173. He made 8 x 50s and 1 x 100 during this period, with a highest score of 106 not out and took 13 x 5wi and 2 x 7wi, with best bowling of 7/14. He won back to back LOC3 Most Valuable Player and Batting Awards in 2002/03 and 2003/04, also winning the 2002/03 LOC3 Bowling Award and then won the 2004/05 4 th XI Bowling Award. Heading back into the LOC3 comp, Ferg saluted three more times with Most Valuable Player Awards in 2005/06, 2007/08 and 2008/09, to go with the LOC3 Batting Award in 2005/06 and 2006/07. He also won the LOC3 2008/09 Bowling Award and played in the 2006/07 LOC3 Premiership. Awarded the 2004/05 Bill Hutchinson / Phil O’Rourke Best Clubman during this period, Ferg remains as the Club’s leading run scorer in history, and is 4th all time for wickets taken.

8. David Grunig – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 33
Another ex-junior, David Gruning (“Grug”) made his senior debut in the 1998/99 season and broke through to the 1 st XI in the 1999/2000 season. After the merger, Grug was selected as Player Cap no. 33 during the 2004/05 season. During the decade, Grug played in 52 games and made 453 runs with a highest score of 63, but it his bowling exploits that see him selected taking 101 wickets with 4 x 5wi and best bowling of 6/50. A two time premiership player in the LOC2 2004/05 and 2008/09 Premierships, Grug also won the 2010/11 Most Valuable Player Award in 2010/11 in the 3 rd XI Burt Shield team, also winning the Bowling Award for that season. Grug is currently sitting on 223 wickets for the club, which is the 33rd most in our history.

9. Paul Stewart
Paul made his GICC debut in the 1985/86 season, and during the first decade of the merged club, played between the two surfaces, and turned out in 81 matches on synthetic. In those 81 games, Paul made 442 runs with 2 x 50s and a highest score of 90x but again, Paul’s expertise with the ball has seen him selected in the Synthetic Team of The Decade. He took 137 wickets on synthetic during the decade with 7 x 5wi, and best bowling of 5/10 which lead him to winning the 4th XI Bowling Award in 2002/03, 2007/08 and 2011/12. Paul also played in the 2005/06 3 rd XI and 2010/11 5th XI Premierships and captained the 2011/12 4th XI side. Fittingly appointed a Life Member of the GICC in the 2005/06 season, Stewie has take 511 career wickets for Glen Iris which is the 6 th most in the history of the club.

10. Marko Dordevic
Marko made his GICC debut in the 2004/05 season and in the first decade of the club, played 101 games. Actually able to hold a stick, but generally not required, Marko made 277 runs with a highest score of 22 not out. However, it was with the ball, the Marko did his talking, taking the second most wickets for the period, with 188 wickets, with 5 x 5wi and 2 x 7wi and best bowling of 8/44. Marko was the 5 th XI Most Valuable Player in the 2010/11 season and followed that up with the 4 th XI Most Valuable Player in the 2011/12 season. He also won the 5th XI Bowling Award in 2010/11 and the 2004/05 5th XI Fielding Award. Marko also managed to play in 3 Premierships during this decade, playing in back to back 4th XI premierships in 2005/06 and 2006/07 and returned to the winners circle in 2010/11 with the 5th XI. During this time Marko also served the Club as Captain for four seasons, namely in the 4th XI in 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10 and 5 the XI in 2010/11 and was on the committee for five seasons from 2006/07 to 2010/11.

11. Mike Bullock (Captain)
Another player with a fine record of service to the club on and off the field, Mike’s records stretches back to his debut in 1968/69. During the first decade, Mike played 119 times and took the 3 rd most wickets, with 186. In those 186 wickets, there was 7 x 5wi and 1 x 7wi with best bowling of 8/38. He also scored 231 runs with a highest score of 43. With the ball, Mike won the 2002/03 5th XI, 2005/06 3 rd XI and 2011/12 LOC3 Bowling Awards and was the 2005/06 3 rd XI Most Valuable Player. Mike also played in two winning Grand Finals during the first decade, namely in the 2003/04 5 th XI and 2005/06 3 rd XI and captained the club in five seasons, in 2003/04 5th XI, 2004/05 3 rd XI, 2005/06 3 rd XI, 2006/07 3 rd XI and 2011/12 LOC3, which led him to be selected as Captain of the Synthetic Team of the Decade. A fine servant of the club, Mike served as President during this period for three seasons in 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08, also serving as a general committee member in 2003/04, 2004/05 and 2008/09. Congratulations most go to Mike as the Games Record holder at this club with 581 games and the 2nd most prolific wicket-taker with 735 wickets.

TURF TEAM OF THE DECADE
2012/13 – 2021/22

 

1. Lucas Skelton – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 82
Lucas joined the Glen Iris Cricket Club for the 2014/15 season and in the second most turf games, with 105 games in the last decade, has made 2,844, the most turf runs in the last Decade, with 17 x 50s and 3 x 100s and a high score of 146 not out. Bones has also taken 102 wickets, which is third most in the last decade with Best Bowling of 5/19. In his debut year, Lucas was the first ever winner of the Noel Thane / Allan Way Best First Year Player and since then has won just about every award this club has on offer. He is a 3 time John Foley Award winner in 2015/16, 2018/19 and 2019/20. He won the 2018/19 Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Championship, along with the 1 st XI Most Valuable Player and Batting Award and was the 2019/20 Jim Toohey / Glenan Thomas Most Determined Player. In 2020/21 Lucas became a 1 st XI Premiership Player and was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award for his Grand Final performance. As far as the competition is concerned, Lucas has been twice selected in the Wright Shield Team of the Season, in 2018/19, when he was named Captain, and 2019/20. As far as his service to the club is concerned, Lucas was appointed Club Coach in the 2015/16 season, a role which he continues in to this day and served as 1 st XI Captain in 2018/19 and 2019/20.

2. Rohan Wight – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 89
Rohan Wight was recruited to the Glen Iris Cricket Club from Ormond Cricket Club and was appointed Captain for the 2015/16 season and served a second year as captain in 2016/17, leading the 1 st XI to consecutive Grand Final appearances. In his 1 st season, Rohan broke the record for runs in a 1 st XI season, making 657, which is a record that still stands today. That season, he was the Noel Thane / Allan Way Best First Year Player, Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Champion, 1 st XI Most Valuable Player and 1 st XI Batting Award winner. In 57 games since his debut as Player Cap No. 89, Ro made 1,955 runs, which is the 3 rd most turf runs for the decade, with 12x 50s and 1 x 100 and a highest score of 114. He also took 28 wickets with best bowling of 3/2. He won a second Club Champion Award, 1 st XI Most Valuable Player and 1 st Batting Award treble in 2019/20 after returning to the club from two years away in Canberra and Kew Subbies, and also won the John Foley Award in 2016/17. Wighty also made the Wright Shield Team of The Year in 2016/17 and 2019/20.

3. Nathan Boucher – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 105
An ex-GICC junior, Nathan made his senior debut in the 2012/13 season, making his 1 st XI debut as Player Cap No. 105 during the 2018/19 season. Since then, Bouch has played 32 game and made 1,313 runs with 9 x 50s and 3 x 100s and a highest score of 110. The past 2 seasons have been Nathan’s most productive, winning the Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford, 1 st Xi Most Valuable Player and 1 st XI Batting Awards in 2020/21 and 2021/22. A 1 st XI Premiership Player in 2020/21, Nathan also won the 2021/22 John Foley Award and made the Wright Shield Team of the Year in 2020/21 and Dunstan Team of the Year in 2021/22. Nathan is now currently representing the club as the Club’s 1 st XI Captain.

4. Tom McDermott – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 38 (Captain)
Already making the 2002/03 – 2012/13 Turf Team of the Decade, Tom went from strength to strength in the 2 nd decade of the club playing 90 games, making the second most amount of runs, with 2,122 runs. Amassing 14 x 50s and 1 x 100 with a highest score of 108x, Tom also took 21 wickets with best bowling of 3/15. Macca was the 2014/15 and 2017/18 1 st XI Most Valuable Player, and was the 2017/18 Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Champion. He also won the 2012/13 1 st XI Fielding Award, then stepped up to serve the club as 1 st Captain in the 2017/18, 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, leading the club to the 2020/21 1 st XI Premiership. In over 253 games for the Glen Iris Cricket Club, Tom has made 5,814 runs, which is the 4th highest in GICC history. With 30 x 50s and 4 x 100s, Tom is one of the most prolific and gifted batsman the club has ever had and therefore has been named Captain of the 2012/13 – 2021/22 Turf Team Of The Decade.

5. Andrew Grubich – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 54
Andrew was recruited to the Glen Iris Cricket Club from ECA rivals Heathmont and made his debut in the 1 st XI in the 2009/10 season, playing a key role in the 2009/10 1 st XI Premiership win, with a well made 85, to set the game up on the first day, but it was in the second decade where Andrew more than hit his straps. In 2012/13, Andrew broke Scott Rojko’s record for runs in a 1 st XI season, making 517 and during the next 10 years, played 100 games, making 1,906 runs, which was the 4th highest for the decade, with 9 x 50s and 2 x 100s and a highest score of 102x. One of the club’s greatest all rounders, Andrew also took the most amount of turf wickets for the decade with 153 wickets, featuring 5 x 5wi and best bowling of 6/16, incidentally in a semi final against his old club. In 2012/13, he won the Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Championship, the 1 st XI Batting Award, was in the Dunstan Shield Team of the Year and won the ECA Batting Average for Dunstan Shield. He also won the 2016/17 and 2019/20 1 st XI Bowling Awards and in 2016/17, made the Wright Shield Team of The Year and one the ECA Bowling Average for Wright Shield. Notwithstanding all his individual performances, Gruba also served the club as Captain-Coach in 2012/13 and 1 st XI Captain in 2013/14.

6. Greg Stafford – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 55
Already making the Synthetic Team of the previous Decade, Staff spent the 2011/12 season in the 1 st XI full time, winning the 1 st XI Bowling average in Dunstan Shield, featuring one of the greatest 1 st XI bowling performances in the history of the club, taking 8/4 in Dunstan against Mulgrave. Playing in 47 games throughout the decade, Staff went on to make 980 runs with 2 x 50s and 1 x 100 and a highest score of 104. He also took 54 wickets with best bowling of 5/23 and once again won the 1 st XI Bowling Award in 2014/15. All in all, Greg made 3547 runs (which is 35th all time) for Glen Iris in 124 games with 21 x 50s and 6 x 100s and a high score of 137. He also took 176 wickets with 3 x 5wi, 1 x 7wi and 1 x 10wm and best bowling of 8/4.

7. Viv Buckley – 1 st XI Player No. 58 (wicket-keeper)
Another player who came through the junior ranks, Viv made his senior debut in the 1998/99 season, making his debut in the 1 st XI before the merger, in 2001/02. After concentrating more on footy for a time, Viv settled back into cricket and earnt Player Cap no. 58 during the 2009/10 season. During the decade, Viv played more turf games than any other player and scored 1,800 runs, which was the 5th most for the decade. In those, Viv scored 6 x 50s and 1 x 100, with a highest score of 129x and has been selected as the wicketkeeper for the Turf Team of the Decade, winning the 1 st XI Fielding Award in 2013/14 and 2014/15. Viv also won the 2018/19 Jim Toohey / Glenan Thomas Most Determined Player, to go along with his one from the previous decade in 2008/09. In 236 games for the club, Viv has scored 4,485 runs, which puts him 17th on the list of run scorers in the club’s history.

8. Nick Jamieson – 1 st XI Player No. 66
Nick made his senior debut in the 2005/06 season and made his 1 st XI debut in the 2011/12 season, when Nick won the Geoff Ferguson / Rick Ford Club Champion Award and won he 1 st Xi Batting. In the second decade of the club though, Nick played 55 games, amongst footy commitments and injury and made 893 runs with 3 x 50s and a highest score of 95. He also took 55 wickets with best bowling of 4/12. In 2020/21, Nick played in the 1 st XI Premiership, to go along with his 2010/11 2 nd XI Premiership win. The 2006/07 Mike Bullock / Ivan Greaves Jnr. Rising Star, Jammo has played 126 games in total for Glen Iris across the years for 2,674 runs with 12 x 50s and 2 x 100s and a high score of 145x, as well as taking 130 wickets with best bowling of 6/40

9. Buddika Sandaruwan – 1 st XI Player no. 106
Coming to Glen Iris as our import in the 2018/19 season, Buddy made his debut that year as 1 st XI Player no. 106. A left arm orthodox spin bowler, Buddy has played 57 games and made 648 runs with 2 x 50s and a highest score of 59 not out. Being selected as the spin bowler for the team, Buddy earnt his selection with 83 wickets (being the 5th most for the decade) featuring 1 x 5wi and 1 x 7wi with best bowling of 7/10. He won the 2019/20 and 2020/21 1 st XI Bowling Awards and is a 2020/21 1 st XI Premiership Player.

10. Andrew Stolzenburg – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 93
An ex-GICC junior, Andrew originally debuted in the 2010/11 season, but returned to the club from Prahran Cricket Club in 2015/16. That season, he made his 1 st XI debut as Player No. 93, winning the Mike Bullock / Ivan Greaves Jnr. Rising Star Award. In 91 turf games during the decade, Andrew has taken 115 wickets, which was 2 nd for the club for the decade. Also making 372 runs with a highest score of 42 not out, Andrew’s stellar performance was for the 2 nd XI in the 2016/17 B-Turf Grand Final, where he bowled himself into the ground and took his club best figures of 6/67 and was awarded the Medal for the Most Valuable Player in the Grand Final. In 2020/21, Stolzy played in his second premiership, in the 2020/21 1 st XI Flag, along with winning the Jim Toohey / Glenan Thomas Most Determined Player Award and last year, won the 1 st XI Bowling Award after leading the wickets for Dunstan Shield for most of the season.

11. Sam Muttdon – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 72
Sam made his GICC debut in 2008/09 in the Colts and after finishing Year 12, ended up playing as the opening bowler for the 2 nd XI in their 2010/11 Premiership win. Making his 1 st XI debut after a year off, Sam debuted as player no. 72 in the 2012/13 season and in 61 games, took 92 wickets, which is 4 th most for the decade. With 3 x 5wi and best bowling of 5/31, Sam won the 1 st XI Bowling Award in 2015/16. He also made 118 runs with a highest score of 18.

SYNTHETIC TEAM OF THE DECADE
2012/13 – 2021/22

 

1. Simon Dumaresq – 1 st XI Player Cap No. 6
Featuring in this side for the previous decade, Duma continued on his merry way during the second decade. Simon played in 53 games during the period and made 1,532 runs with 9 x 50s and a highest score off 77x, which puts him 3 rd for the decade. Consistently making runs at the top of the order, the Club recognised Simon’s contribution by awarding him the John Foley Award in 2017/18 after his 479 run season. Duma also won the 2017/18 LOC1 and 2019/20 LOC2 Batting Awards. It’s been a stellar career for Duma, which has seen him named in both Synthetic Teams of the Decade, after 133 games, scoring 3,476 runs with 15 x 50s and 4 x 100s and a highest score of 124x.

2. Toby Tribe – 1 st XI Player No. 23
Opening the batting in The Turf Team of the 1 st Decade, Toby has also been selected as the opening batsman for the Synthetic Team of the 2 nd Decade. Playing in 48 synthetic games during the decade, Toby made 1,064 runs with 5 x 50s and 1 x 100 and a highest score of 104 not out and in his exploits opening the batting, won the 2013/14 and 2020/21 John Foley Awards to bring his tally to 3, the latter awarded in a year when he played in the 2020/21 3 rd XI Premiership, also his 3 rd for the club. Winning the award as Bill Hutchinson / Phil O’Rouke Best Clubman in 2012/13, Toby has played 248 games for the club and made 5699 runs, with 22 x 50s and 6 x 100s and a highest score of 140 for the Glen Iris Cricket Club, which is the 5 th highest in Club History. In addition to his on-field roles, Toby was President for 6 seasons; has been Vice-President for 7 seasons and was made a Life Member of the Club in 2015.

3. Jim Parry
Jim made his GICC debut, fresh off reality TV, in 2009/10, primarily playing Vets for the first few years at Glen Iris, before becoming captain of the Colts XI in the MCA in 2015/16. During the decade, Jim played in 68 games and scored the 4th most amount of runs, with 1,478, featuring 10 x 50s and a high score of 98. A handy bowler, Jim also took 36 wickets with best bowling of 4/10. In 2017/18, he became the LOC4 Most Valuable Player, also winning the LOC4 Batting Award and Fielding Award that same year. Jim followed that up the next year with the 4th XI Batting Award, playing in the 4 th XI Premiership and winning the medal for Most Valuable Player in the Grand Final. He backed that up in 2020/21, winning the 4th XI Batting Award, a year in which he also won the Bill Hutchinson / Phil O’Rourke Best Clubman Award. Jim currently stands 68 th for runs in the Club’s history with 2481 runs in 123 games.

4. Phil Mather
The most prolific batsman in the 2 nd decades Team of the Decade, Phil made his debut in the 2006/07 season and as far as the decade is concerned, scored 2,826 runs with 23 x 50s and a high score of 93 not out. An occasional bowler, Phil also took 7 wickets, with best bowling of 3/11. Phil kicked off the decade winning the 4th XI Batting Award, then in 2015/16 won the Most Valuable Player and Batting Award for LOC4. He backed up those feats by winning the same awards in 2016/17, adding the ECA LOC4 Batting Average to his trophy case and rounded out the Batting Awards with another Batting Award in the 4th XI in 2019/20. A 2018/19 4th XI Premiership player, Phil has played in 218 games since his debut for 5,378
runs, which makes him the 7th highest run scorer in club history.

5. Adam Lane – Player Cap No. 31 (wicket-keeper)
Adam made his GIUCC debut in the 1998/99 season, playing in the 1 st XI, before emulating that feat after the merge, becoming 1 st XI Player No. 31 during the 2004/05 season. Playing in 87 games on synthetic during the club’s Second decade, Adam was the second highest run scorer for the decade, with 2,117 runs featuring 10 x 50s and 1 x 100 and a highest score of 108. Winning his first Most Valuable Player Award in 2020/21 in the LOC2 team, Bangabacked up his form in 2021/22 winning the 4th XI Batting Award, but as much as he is renowned for his batting, Banger is a former 1 st XI Premiership wicket-keeper. With the 2014/15 and 2020/21 LOC2 Fielding Awards to his name, Banger has been selected as the keeper for the Synthetic Team of the Decade for 2012/13 to 2021/22. During the decade, he added the 2015/16 LOC2 Premiership to his other premierships and finished the decade on 4588 runs in 271 games, making him the 16 th highest run scorer in the history of the club.

6. Sultan Kirby
Sultan played his first game for the Glen Iris Cricket Club in the 2006/07 season and during the second decade of the club, was one of the go to LOC players for captain, Paul McDermott. In 42 games during the decade, Sultan made 867 runs with 4 x 50s and a highest score of 83 not out and, generally opening the bowling, took 66 wickets, with best bowling of 5/29. A 2015/16 LOC2 Premiership Player, where he won the Fielding Award, Sulty won the 2017/18 LOC1 Most Valuable Player Award, along with the Bowling Award for that season. He also won the 2018/19 LOC1 Batting Award. A genuine all-rounder, Sultan played 93 games for the Glen Iris Cricket Club, making 1,802 runs, with 10 x 50s and a highest score of 91 AND took 96 wickets.

7. Justin Hendy
Making his debut in the 2005/06 season, and only playing sporadically up until 2016/17, Justin Hendy played 79 games during the second decade of the club and amassed 1,204 runs with 5 x 50s and a highest score of 73 not out. A crafty slow bowler, Hendo also consistently took wickets during the period in question, with 50 wickets to his name and best bowling of 4/10. The 2018/19 season was a watershed for Hendo with 311 runs and 16 wickets winning him the 4th XI Most Valuable Player Award, along with the 4th XI Fielding Award, in a year where he also played in the 4th XI Premiership. In 2021/22, Hendo stepped up and captained the 4th XI and in a career, now spanning 100 games has made 1,447 runs with 5 x 50s and the highest score of 73 not and taken 55 wickets with best bowling of 4/10

8. Scott Rankin
In a career spanning almost 20 seasons, Scott Rankin has become one of our synthetic teams’ most reliable players with both bat and ball. Debuting in the 2004/05 season, Scott has played every grade imaginable up to 2 nd XI level. In 91 games during the past decade, Scott has made 1,175 runs with 2 x 50s and 1 x 100 and a highest score of 133. He also snared the 3 rd most wickets on synthetic for the period, with 91, including 3 x 5wi and best bowling of 5/19. A Most Valuable Player Award magnet, Scott won the 2014/15, 2019/20 and 2020/21 LOC Most Valuable Player Awards, adding the 4th XI Most Valuable Player Award in 2021/22 to make a career total of Six MVP awards. He also won the 2014/15 LOC2 Batting Award, and the Bowling Award in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 LOC seasons. Playing in three Premierships in his career, Scott was the 2006/07 Chris Joseph Most Improved Player and in 218 career games so far, has made 2,294 runs, with 6 x 50s and 1 x 100 and taken the 24 th most amount of wickets for the club, with 291, featuring 9 x 5wi, 1 x 10wm and best bowling of 6/3. Scott has also served on the committee for four seasons, including this one.

9. David Long
David made his GIUCC debut in the 1988/89 season and prior to the merge made his 1 st XI debut in the 1991/92 season, eventually going on to captain the 1 st XI for two years in the 1999/2000 and 2000/01 seasons. On the merge of the two clubs, Longy made his debut in the inaugural 1 st XI team as Player Cap No. 11. In 58 games during the decade, Longy made 917 runs with 5 x 50s and a highest score of 77 and took the 4th most amount of wicket for the period with 88, with best bowling of 6/21. Playing in the 2015/16 LOC2 Premiership, Longy won the 2014/15 LOC2 and 2021/22 4th XI Bowling Awards and was the 2012/13 5th XI Most Valuable Player. Throughout his career at the club, Longy has been a J.C.Gibbon Award winner as the 1998/99 1 st XI Best & Fairest Player, and was a 2 nd XI Most Valuable Player and Bowling Award winner in 2002/03. With two others premierships to his name, in the 2008/09 3 rd XI and 2010/11 LOC 1 sides, Longy has made the 29th most amount of runs in the history of the club, with 3,726 runs in 261 games, featuring 11 x 50s and 1 x 100 with a highest score of 132 not out. His also taken the 19th most wickets in club history with 336 with 7 x 5wi and best bowling of 6/10 and his service to the Club saw David awarded Life Membership.

10. Marko Dordevic (Captain)
Already featuring in the Synthetic Team of the Decade for the 1 st Decade, Marko follows in Duma’s footsteps by being named to the Team of the Decade for the 2 nd Decade also. During the second decade, Marko played the most amount of games, with 150 and took the most amount of wickets with 223, featuring 3 x 5wi and best bowling of 5/4. He also got it done with the stick a bit more than the previous decade, making 756 runs with a highest score of 53 not out. Along the way, Marko won the 2012/13 LOC1, 2017/18 LOC4 and 2020/21 4 th XI Bowling Award and captained the 2018/19 4th XI Premiership side. Also captaining the 2017/18 LOC4, 2019/20 4th XI and 2020/21 4th XI sides, Marko has been named captain of the 2012/13-2021/2022 Synthetic Team of the Decade. With 257 career games to his name, Marko has now taken the 10th most amount of wickets for the club with 413, featuring 8 x 5wi, 2 x 7wi an best bowling of 8/44. He’s also contributed 1,045 runs and served the club’s committee for 8 seasons, leading to his appointment as a Life Member of the club in the 2020/21 season.

11. Kevan Richards
Making his debut in the 1999/00 season, Kevan Richards rounds out the XI, earning selection for taking the second most amount of wicket for the decade, in 98 games. With 117 wickets and best bowling of 4/16, Kev won the 2012/13 LOC2 and 2016/17 LOC4 Bowling Awards and also managed 543 runs with a highest score of 36 not out. Incidentally, that 2016/17 seasons saw Kevan took out the bowling average award for the ECA as well in LOC4 and played in the 2018/19 4th XI Premiership team, which was his 3 rd for the club, after the 2004/05 LOC2 and 2006/07 LOC3 flags. Over his career, Kev has played 291 games for the
Glen Iris Cricket Club and taken 361 wickets, which is the 16th most in the club’s history and won the Most Valuable Player Award in the 2005/06 LOC2, 2010/11 LOC2 and 2011/12 LOC3 sides.
