Junior Update

It’s a wrap for Blasters – see you next year!
Last week was the last Blasters for season 2020/21. All the boys and girls received their fantastic gold awards for completing the program. We thank them for bringing their smiling faces each week.

A few Sundays ago, we also had an enthusiastic group of Master Blasters come and try a game of “proper” cricket. It was a fantastic morning, with all the players getting the opportunity to waddle out to the crease in a pair of pads, gloves and helmet, bowl with a harder ball and get a feel for U10/Level One cricket. It was an amazing game that ended up as a tie – 54 each – who would have thought?

We can’t wait to have them all involved at Glen Iris next year.

The Season Crescendo!
This week sees the regular season of ISEC competitions wrap up and the ECA will have a quick turnaround for the following week for the all-day Sunday finals. TM’s and Coaches would have already let you know about this. We have numerous teams in contention or just sitting outside the 4 in many grades.

Good luck to all teams over the next week, and remember, just look to keep on improving, enjoy the moment and support each other as a team – that philosophy goes a long way!

Great Sportsmanship & Behaviour
It has been wonderful to hear a few stories over the last couple of weeks of outstanding player sportsmanship and personally witness outstanding behaviour by Glen Iris players.

This is the number one thing as a Club we want to be known for. Everybody should be particularly proud of their sons and daughters for playing the GI way. Keep up the awesome work.

Junior Presentation Evening – SAVE THE DATE – Sunday 21 March 2021.
After last year’s virtual awards, we will be back at Eric Raven for the presentation evening.
Start time – 5pm and wrap up about 7pm. BBQ will be provided, and the canteen will be open for drink purchases.

Note – we will be handing out last year’s trophies, 50/100 games etc too!

All Girls Cricket Carnival
Over the last few years, we have had a big focus on All Girls Cricket. This season we are lucky enough to have 2 awesome teams playing on a Wednesday night. No prior experience is required as we have some great, experienced coaches (including a current under-age Victorian player). The improvement across the season is amazing. Once the girls get involved, they have a ball. Next year we want to get at least 3 teams!

So if your daughter, friend, cousin (aged between 6 and 12) is interested in having a look at what cricket can offer…. Cricket Victoria is running an all-Girls Cricket Carnival on Sunday 7th March 2021 at Jubilee Park in Ringwood (8.45 am – 10.45 am). There will be:

* Stars Inflatables
* Starman
* Face Painting
* Cricket clinic
* Dance warm-up
* Giveaways

There will also be current Victorian and Australian players there. Sounds like a great morning.
